Serena Chalker is an independent artist and co-director of Anything is Valid Dance Theatre. Named “Most Interesting Australian Artist” in the 2016 and 2018 Dance Australia Critics Surveys and winner of the PAWA Award for Best Production for ‘Dust on the Shortbread’, Serena holds an M.A: The Body in Performance with Distinction (2014) from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. From performances created in laneways, caravans, residential houses to one-on-one audio-guided works, Serena’s projects, emerging from the unique qualities of each site, have a deeply ingrained sensitivity to their context. Her works have been performed and presented internationally in South Korea, Belgium, Finland, Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, United Kingdom and around Australia, and has undertaken residencies and exchanges in Canada and Poland. Together with Emma Fishwick, she is a STRUT 2020 Seed residency recipient. She is also the co-curator of the site-specific platform In Situ.
